We've all heard the phrase "wear and tear". Have you ever stopped to think of what that actually means? Like, is your body really set up so that the more you use it the more it "wears" down? Unlike your car, or pencil eraser, your body doesn't simply wear down as you use it! The bad news is that if you don't use it right and let it heal properly it most definitely will wear down. The good news is that we have the knowledge, skill set and tools to get your body to move right and to heal properly! Our physical therapy page gets more into the details of that;
In this section we highlight the tools that the top athletes use to help maximize their performance, and briefly describe how our professionals use them to help your body heal faster so that you can maximize yours! Scroll to the bottom of the page to book an appointment
Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) locates and breaks up the abnormal cross-linkages and rehabilitates the injured area to its optimal function. IASTM can help accelerate the body’s cellular response to heal an injured area by helping to increase the infiltration of fibroblasts to the injured site.
Kinesiology Taping is the rehabilitative application of Kinesio Tape to facilitate the body's natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.
Photobiomodulation Therapy, or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is the specified use of wavelength of two types of both near-infrared and red light to generate therapeutic results. Laser therapy has been shown to reduce the healing time of patients following a procedure, lessen the amount of swelling, reduce pain, and improve circulation.
Laser therapy boosts circulation, and pulls in oxygen, water, and nutrients that the damaged area needs to heal. In addition it lessens stiffness and muscle spasms ultimately creating the ideal environment for the affected area to heal. Laser treatments are painless and tolerated well by the patients that receive them.
CryoMassage combines the physiological effects of cold therapy with some of the therapeutic effects of massage. CryoMassage is an ideal approach to improving conditions like tendonitis and breaking up adhesions. Expect it to get more than cold at first, and feel more than good when it's done!
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) Stretching is a stretching technique commonly used to increase ROM and flexibility in athletes. PNF increases ROM by increasing neuromuscular efficiency; the stretching portion of the technique elongates the muscle. Although commonly used on athletes, PNF stretching has been found to increase ROM in individuals of all levels of athleticism.
Joint mobilizations are highly specialized manual therapy techniques performed here at our physical therapy clinic. This skilled treatment involves the passive movement of specific joints using the skilled application of force, direction, and technique. A physical therapist can use his or her hands to mobilize an affected joint, or may elect to use certain tools, including straps, to help deliver the desired treatment effect. Note: desired treatment effects are based on precise underlying issue with the joint.
The specific type, magnitude, speed, and frequency of joint mobilization performed depends on a few things, including the goal of treatment, the type of joint being targeted, and even your own unique anatomy. The primary effects of joint mobilizations include pain reduction, decreased muscle spasm/tone, and improved joint motion.
You may have seen the results of Cupping Therapy intervention on some of the athletes in the last olympic games and wondered what those round bruises on their bodies were. Cupping Therapy is a useful treatment technique for any area that is painful or tight. Through negative pressure it pulls and stretches the tissues beneath the cup. As the cup is manipulated and moved around, it stretches the fascia and muscle tissues, while the negative pressure pulls the fluids out of the tissues. These fluids contain all the toxic byproducts of injury, including old blood cells, inflammatory chemicals and toxins. Once it is brought to the skins surface, your skin's blood flow clear out the waste.
